Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori
Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori is a festival that began to show respect for the local arts of Tokushima, which has a history of over 400 years, and celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
Awa-Odori consists of a dancer and a ring. The dancers are divided into female dance (Onna odori) and male dance (Otoko odori), and a child’s part also exists. The music consists of five things : Ringing are Gong (Kane), Shamisen, Flute, Tightened Drum (Taiko), and Big Drum (Odaiko), which is the basic composition, and will make a dancer.
Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori is held on the last Saturday and Sunday of August every year, but it extends the range of activities such as festivals not only in Koenji but also around Kanto and abroad performances.
Tokyo Dome holds a joint performance of the Koenji Awa-Odori Association which cannot be usually seen in Koenji.
